HOLLYWOOD -- Flying chairs, impromptu kissing and uncontrollable laughter were all part of Tuesday's "One Night Only... With a Little Help From Our Friends" event at Royce Hall benefiting the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television.

At the gala, hosts Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson brought together their famous friends, including Annette Bening, Martin Short and William Shatner, to perform the Pulitzer prize-winning 1936 play "You Can't Take It With You."

During the show, Short took advantage of his role as Bening's husband to plant several unscripted kisses on the thesp, causing the 19-person ensemble cast to break into laughter. The hijinks continued when Short, Shatner and Hanks began throwing chairs off the stage after one accidentally fell down.

The lively performance was directed by Nora Ephron. "I can't believe that I am still standing, much less the actors," she said at the after-party.
