'Elegy' stars Peter Sarsgaard, Patricia Clarkson and Penelope Cruz at the film's New York premiere. |
"For her it is a great thing," Coixet said. "It shows that she can be a comedy actress and a drama actress."
"Elegy" is based on Philip Roth novella "The Dying Animal," about an affair between a professor (Ben Kingsley) and his student (Cruz); helmer said that she "loved" the original title but "people were really scared of it."
Not scared of adapting yet another Roth novel was screenwriter Nicholas Meyer, who also scripted "The Human Stain."
"I am being typecast," scribe joked before explaining why he finds Roth's work so appealing. "I like the idea of making movies about real people. I am not interested in superheroes."
