“It’s more for them rather than the Hollywood glam,” explained helmer Simon Cellan Jones. “It’s like a reunion and a thank you to all those guys.”
During the after-party on the Paramount lot, Evan Wright, who wrote the book upon which “Kill” is based, said he was glad the project landed at HBO. “I knew HBO would take the care and time to accurately render the details of my journalism, whereas the bigscreen would have turned it into pure fiction,” he said.
Despite the series’ serious subject matter, partygoers were upbeat as they enjoyed a Cajun dinner and played the vidgame “Call of Duty 4,” which was set up on plasma screens.
“We feel a particular allegiance to the Marines we depicted,” said exec producer David Simon. “They’re here tonight, and they’re entitled to have a good time.”
