Will Smith and Charlize Theron arrive on the red carpet for the London premiere of 'Hancock.'

LONDON -- Will Smith took centerstage at the June 18 U.K. premiere of "Hancock," the superhero movie with a twist.

Lapping up a boisterous welcome from adoring Brit fans, topliner and producer Smith said, "we tried to break genre and create something that was different."

The pic is about a reluctant (and often drunk) superhero John Hancock who struggles to interact with mere mortals.

Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron, who, respectively, play a PR man desperately trying to rebrand the hero and Hancock's long-lost girlfriend, were both on hand to tubthump at the Vue West End, Leicester Square.

Also in attendance were director Peter Berg, producer Akiva Goldsman and Brit thesp Eddie Marsan who plays a bank robber in the pic.
