Kibitzing poolside was David Duchovny who explained his reason for taking on the role of the skein's protag Hank Moody, a lothario L.A. scribe in the throes of mid-life.
"I saw him as this '70s comedic anti-hero that I always wanted to play and thought would never get the chance to," he said, "A lot of what he does is hard to swallow."
Though the DVD doesn't boast any bonus material, "Californication" creator Tom Kapinos explained that Showtime typically "likes to wait for the series finale" before releasing an edition loaded with extras.
Having infused "Californication" with a bulk of heavy metal and rock symbolism, Kapinos left his fingerprints on the series soundtrack "Temptation," which is getting a simultaneous release with the DVD on June 20. Kapinos said about the skein's musical selections, which includes tunes from Warren Zevon to The Doors, "when I'm writing it's that mental encyclopedia of stuff from when I was a kid."
