Director Peter Askin and Joan Allen attend the 'Trumbo' screeing after-party hosted by The Cinema Society and the ACLU on Monday at the Tribeca Cinemas in New York. |
Pic, based on Christopher Trumbo's 2003 play of the same title, centers around his father, Dalton Trumbo, a blacklisted, Oscar winning screenwriter and features thesps such as Allen, Lucas and Brian Dennehy, Paul Giamatti, David Strathairn, Donald Sutherland and Michael Douglas reading the scribe's letters.
"I didn't really know anything about Trumbo," Allen admitted. "But once I found out about him and his life and what he sacrificed, I realized that this is a great project to be part of."
Allen also confessed that the one-day shoot was very appealing.
"It was short and sweet and something amazing to do," she said.
Pic's helmer, Peter Askin, who also directed the play, told the audience prior to the screening, "someone recently asked Christopher what his father would think of the film and he answered by saying that part of him would be amazed that the film was ever made at all and another part would want to know why it hadn't been made sooner."
