After a 3 p.m. unspooling at Grauman's Chinese, guests were shuttled to the Jim Henson Studios on La Brea, which Warner's transformed into a rendering of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory.
But only a select group got the golden ticket to attend, as event organizers were forced to trim the fat on the guest list. Event was a benefit for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
While most of the festivities took place outdoors -- game booths and candy stations flanked the space -- there was also an inside tent, complete with another sugar stash, an array of videogames and plush couches to unwind on.
Producer Dick Zanuck, though, could not sit still until he introduced his young grandson to pic's Oompa Loompa: Deep Roy. But he did take a moment to discuss helmer Tim Burton, with whom Zanuck has now collaborated on three pictures.
"He is the magic czar," said Zanuck. "No other czar can do."
He may be able to create magic without breaking a sweat, but Burton admitted that lensing "Charlie" wasn't always a breeze.
"Directing children is never easy," he said. "Throw some squirrels in the mix (like we did); now that's a challenge."
