Throngs come far for 'Wide'
Stars out in force for preem
Moviegoers, including Madonna, Glenn Close, Peter Gallagher, Tommy Mottola, Iman and Martha Stewart, were kept on the edge of their seats pending the arrival of Vice President Al Gore at Gotham's Ziegfeld Theater.
Gore presented a birthday gift to talkshow host Rosie O'Donnell, who plays a sports-loving nun in "Wide Awake." Observing the St. Patrick's Day-themed wrapping paper, O'Donnell shook the box and quipped, "It's probably something used to tap a keg."
O'Donnell thanked Miramax co-chairmen Bob and Harvey Weinstein for making the evening a benefit for her "For All Kids" foundation. Following the screening, she patiently signed autographs for young fans, many of whom came from Philadelphia's Waldron Academy, which is featured in "Wide Awake."
Repping the film at the soiree afterward at Bryant Park Grill were director Shyamalan, producers Cary Woods and Cathy Konrad and stars O'Donnell, Dana Delany, Denis Leary, Robert Loggia and Joseph Cross.
Gore and his wife, Tipper, skipped the party, heading instead to a fundraiser the Weinsteins held for the Democratic National Committee at the Rihga Royal Hotel.
