'DUSK' PREQUEL, SEQUEL SET
"Dusk" director Robert Rodriguez is developing the prequel while the sequel is being developed by Quentin Tarantino, who wrote and starred in the first pic. The "Dusk" prequel and sequel will each have a budget of $10 million.
Dimension is expected to tap two up-and-coming directors to helm the projects, though sources said they will be "supervised" by Rodriguez and Tarantino.
The team of Lawrence Bender, Meir Teper and Gianni Nunnari will produce both films. Bender was exec producer of the first "Dusk" while Teper and Nunnari were producers.
Scribe Scott Spiegel will write the sequel (Daily Variety, June 5) and Alvaro Rodriguez will pen the prequel with his cousin Robert. Lensing is set to begin in the middle of the year.
Released in January, "From Dusk Till Dawn" starred George Clooney and Tarantino as the notorious Gecko brothers who kidnap the family of minister Jacob Fuller, portrayed by Harvey Keitel. The Geckos and the Fullers end up spending the night at a wild tavern south of the border that is run by vampires.
No talent has been signed to either the prequel or the sequel, but Miramax is planning on cameo appearances by Tarantino and "ER"/"Batman and Robin" star Clooney, who is currently back on the big screen in Twentieth Century Fox's "One Fine Day."
