FURLONG TAKES 'HISTORY'

By DAN COX

Edward Furlong, who launched his career opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Terminator II," has signed to star with Edward Norton in the urban racism tale "American History X" for New Line Cinema, the studio said Tuesday.

Furlong will play Norton's brother in the story about a man who is struggling to reform himself after living a life consumed by violence and bigotry.

Pic is slated to lense in March under Tony Kaye's direction. David McKenna, writer on other New Line pics "Jello Shots" and "Blow," penned the screenplay.

John Morrissey and Lawrence Turman of their eponymous Sony-based company are producing. Steve Tisch and Kearie Peak are exec producers on the project.

" 'American History X' is a material-driven project that offers Edward Furlong and Edward Norton an explosive platform to showcase their talents," said Michael De Luca, New Line president of production, who is overseeing the production with director of development Brian Witten.

Furlong last starred in Barbet Schroeder's "Before and After" and "Little Odessa." Other credits include "American Heart."
