Gold Baton Passed to News Vet Schorr

Veteran newsman Daniel Schorr, whose reputation as a reporter earned him membership on the late president Richard Nixon's "enemies list" during the Watergate years, won the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Gold Baton award at the 54th annual ceremony last week in New York. Schorr, who worked at CBS and CNN and is now at National Public Radio, was honored for "exceptional contributions to radio and TV reporting and commentary."
Among other winners announced Jan. 25, ABC and PBS both nabbed two awards in the network TV category for news and docu programming; WXYZ Detroit won in the major-market TV sector for a series on the Michigan Militia; and WTVJ Miami won for Haiti coverage.

Brian Lapping Associates earned cable honors for a Watergate series on the Discovery Channel.
