Arunaway hit on home turf, "One in a Million" is a fast and funny black comedy about the subject of unemployment. Though pic is one of the best Swedish comedies in recent years, the preponderance of local jokes (with stabs at celebs and institutions) will make it a tough sell abroad.
Writer-directors Mans Herngren and Hannes Holm previouslyworked in TV, with a string of comedy series and satires. Their first feature tells of bank employee, Torsten (Tomas von Bromssen), who is devastated when sacked by his ruthless boss and tries to hide the shame of unemployment. To get his job back, he hits on the wild idea of staging a fake bank robbery in which he emerges as the hero. However, when the plan misfires there's suddenly 5 million kronor missing.
Film is, for once, a comedy that's based in reality, and the compact running time ensures things never become stale or boring. Gags are sharp and witty, and performances, especially from lead von Bromssen, are very good overall.
