Pro 7's managing director, the Austrian-born Georg Kofler is perhaps the second most powerful man in the Kirch Group behind Leo Kirch, though the two are not officially connected. Since '89, he has built the station into a first-rate free-movie channel and will launch two highly anticipated TV series this fall.
More than just running a station, Kofler is building the unit into a mini-conglom within the Kirch Group: Pro 7 boasts 14 subsids, including spinoff weblet Kabel 1, a planned home-shopping channel, CD-ROM production, an ad sales operation and a subscriber management service.
