Aroutine actioner that covers familiar ground, "Red Scorpion 2" can expect a brief theatrical release in urban areas followed by a video career.
This is a sequel that doesn't aim high. Reworking the "Dirty Dozen" theme, it involves a disparate group of characters who are brought together by a government agency (headed by Michael Ironside) to stop the activities of a neo-fascist businessman (John Savage) who uses skinheads to do his dirty work against minority communities.
The good guys are led by Nick Stone (Matt McColm), who goes through the action motions without appearing to enjoy it very much. Supporting cast is your standard, ethnically mixed bunch, with Jennifer Rubin as the gal along for the ride. Savage leers his way through the film as the baddie.
The Vancouver-lensed feature contains almost non-stop fights, explosions, shootings and general mayhem, certainly enough to keep the action crowd moderately happy.
Technical credits are all adequate.
