Abc Sunday Night Movie She Woke Up Pregnant

ABC SUNDAY NIGHT MOVIE She Woke Up Pregnant (Sun. (28), 9-11 p.m., ABC) Filmed in Vancouver, B.C., by O'Hara-Horowitz Prods. Executive producers, Michael O'Hara, Larry Horowitz. Producer, Tracey Jeffrey; director, James A. Contner; writer, Michael O'Hara.

Cast: Michele Greene, William R. Moses, Joe Penny, Theresa Saldana, Lynda Carter, John P. Connolly. She Woke Up Pregnant" is a clunky title for a pretty entertaining MOW: With Joe Penny relishing his role as the evil serial-rapist dentist and Michele Greene as the perky, plucky heroine, plus numerous plot twists (some that push the credibility envelope), auds looking for no-brainer of an evening should tune in.

Schoolteacher Connie Loftus (Greene) and construction-worker hubby Tom (William R. Moses) are a cute couple with a cute house and two cute kids. But Connie's been having symptoms of pregnancy, as well as nightmares that she's been raped.

Connie's doctor confirms that she is pregnant, but that's impossible, maintains Connie -- her husband has had a very successful vasectomy and she's never been unfaithful.

The mystery clears somewhat when Connie remembers that during recent dental surgery, she was anesthetized with very powerful drugs, and theorizes that someone in the office raped her while she was unconscious.

Connie confronts Dr. Roger Nolten (Penny) and the silky-smooth doc tells her she's nuts. But she knows that he's the rapist and tells the police. Meanwhile, Nolten retains legal eagle Susan Saroyan (Lynda Carter) to go on the offensive against Connie.

"She Woke Up" serves some satisfying -- but not wholly believable -- plot twists, and writer Michael O'Hara's script revolves around themes of trust and truth, and how truth can be manipulated to violate trust.

Greene's perf gives auds someone to root for, and Penny and Carter, usually the good guys, seem to revel in the naked meanness of their roles.

Camera, Richard Leiterman; editor, Ron Spang; production design, Richard Wilcox; sound, Martin Fossum; casting, Ellie Kanner, Sid Kozak.
