Though the music on his mediocre new album, "Wonderful"(Capitol), made for few notable live moments, his frequent trips down memory lane were what the twentysomething crowd came to see and were the obvious highlights of the 90 -minute show.
Such snappy early solo material as "Vive Le Rock" and "Desperate But Not Serious" were quick reminders that the British singer's best days are behind him. New tunes "Gotta Be a Sin" and show opener "Wonderful" go for a more romantic and sensitive slant, yet live they ultimately veered into bland, directionless exercises that lacked inspiration. In the past, Adam Ant's attempts to fuse the brashness of punk with the sass of dance made for anxious, yet elegant songs that spoke to kids seeking to escape the prevalence of guitar-dominated hard rock. These days, though, his attempts to speak to a new generation have, as demonstrated on "Wonderful," come up short.
