In his review, Derek Elley opined that pic "is a potentially charming medieval cartoon let down by so-so technique and unimaginative plotting. Undemanding kid fare, uniting British and Hungarian animators, will fill afternoon tube slots quicker than movie theaters.
"Main problem is that pic fails to capitalize on its most interesting characters. After a standard opening, introing the wholesome leads, things pick up in the third reel with the arrival of Froglip and his gonzo family.
"But the evil-smelling goblins aren't made into really scary villains and there's a lack of dramatic impetus leading to the climax.
"Pic lacks the visual texture of helmer Jozsef Gemes' 'Heroic Times'; look and coloring are solid, but coin-saving lack of detail and of in-betweening results in jerky motion."
