Blues Traveler
(The Roxy; capacity 450; $15 top)
Band: John Popper, Chan Kinchla, Bobby Sheehan, Brendan Hill.
This rock band has been gathering a hardcore group of early-20s fans, mostly through word of mouth. Openers for the Allmans and Santana, the Travelers have honed their hard rocking skills with their second A&M release "Traveler's and Thieves."
Fronted by larger-than-life blues harpist John Popper, the band rocks through a panoply of like sounding tunes. The virtuoso Popper plays a cascade of notes from his ammunition belt of harmonicas, proving himself to be one of the fastest players to pick up the Hohner.
Show highlights included "Reporting The Epic Saga Of Lucky Lack," a 10-minute version of "Sweet Pain" that featured the quick licks of Chan Kinchla's Stratocaster, and the off tempo, well tempered "100 Years."
