The Sugarcubes started the show amid a wash of swirling smoke, a good setup for a mysterious and unique evening.

Quirky (though mostly unintelligible) vocals, shuffling Police-like guitar, a bit of New York-style record scratching, African rhythms, mini-trumpets and even Mexico's version of Elvis Presley were all tied together by the Sugarcubes unusual musical vision.

Vocalists Bjork and Einar (first names are much simpler) make a great dual-frontperson team: His raps and howls played nicely off of her glass-shattering notes and screams. Their sometimes erotic physical interplay added to many songs as well.

"Chihuahua," the band's current single "Hit" and the haunting "Regina" were all standouts.

Bjork prefaced "Hit," near the end of show, by inviting audience to front of hall. Result? An unexpected group-dance as fans joined the band onstage.

Other highlights included the naughty "Leash Called Love" and an appearance during the encore of El Vez, the self-proclaimed Mexican Elvis.
