Band: Joan Jones, David Russo, Glen Holmen, Rafael Goyal.
Los Angeles-based Sun-60 returned home after a three-month tour promoting its self-titled Epic debut.
Judging from the fresh approach to pop on display, the duo won't be playing smaller venues much longer.
Singer Joan Jones combines the sensuality of Edie Brickell with the voice of Rickie Lee Jones. Paired with co-founder David Russo on acoustic steel guitar and back-up vocals, her vocal prowess seemed limitless.
"Many Miles" featured Jones on trumpet, playing Clarence Clemons-like riffs behind a flying mane of blond hair as she bounced around the stage.
Russo picked up his Guild electric for "Runaway Jane" and turned to his electric piano for clever licks on "Water, Water, Water.""Should Have Seen the Moon," written during an electric storm, brought its own vision of rain, thunder and lightning.
"Kiss the Train" featured the willowy Jones doing her imitation of a disappearing train as the twentysomething crowd howled along. Epic has picked "Responsible" for the debut video; while a fine tune, it lacks the heat and clever horn riffs that marked "Middle of My Life," and the set-ending "Sugar."
