Miles and Friends

 ((Fri. (22), 9-10 p.m., Bravo))

Taped in Paris at La Grande Halle by Le Poisson Volant. Distributed by Amaya Distribution. Producer, Sophie Goupil; director, Renaud Le Van Kim; assistant director, Yann Hervouet; sound, Alain Francais, Philippe Baudoin, Philippe Wojtowicz.

One of the last televised concerts by one of the most innovative forces in jazz, show captures the essence of Miles Davis -- cool, disinterested, yet in command of the flow. Show was recorded July 10, 1991, just over two months before Davis' death at age 65 last Sept. 28.

The Miles Davis Band includes Deron Johnson on keyboards, Ricky Wellman on drums, Joseph Foley MacCreary on guitar, Richard Patterson on bass, and Kenny Garret on sax, with cameos by such colleagues as Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and Wayne Shorter.

Concert runs through six numbers, including Prince's "Penetration," Herbie Hancock's "Dig Watermelon Man," Joe Zawinul's "In a Silent Way," John Bettis/Stephen Porcard's "Human Nature," Davis' own "All Blues" and "Jean-Pierre."
