Neil Simon's Last of the Red Hot Lovers was a very funny play. It has been made into a funny motion picture.

The wonderful thing about Simon's characters is that they're so self-identifiable. Every husband who ever let his eye wander will empathize with Barney Cashman, happily married for 22 years, trying to make it, 'just once', with another gal, and suffer with his repeated failures.

Alan Arkin, a very funny man with some personal mannerisms that don't always fit the role, makes good use of all of them here, even those nervous eyes.

Sally Kellerman lacks the brash sexiness of her Hot Lips Hoolihan in MASH. Paula Prentiss is missing the swingy verve of Where the Boys Are and Renee Taylor, who comes off best of the three, doesn't seem as comfortable as Barney's wife's best friend as she was in Made for Each Other.
