George C. Scott, gives as fine a performance as he's ever done.

An unventuring Calvinist, Scott lives a contented small-town Michigan life until his daughter, Ilah Davis, disappears on a trip to LA. He hires seedy private-eye Peter Boyle who eventually finds her on film in a porno movie. Forced to watch, Scott's anguish at the sight bespeaks a clash of values still haunting the country.

For many, this will be the first up-close look at the world including nude-conversation encounters, massage parlors, bondage joints and the lowest degradation - 'snuff' films.

The easily shocked may want an expose, or more a condemnation. The more sophisticated may grow tired of Scott's morality. But shocked, cynical or dissatisfied, nobody's going to be bored.
