Ron Howard has directed with a broad but amiable and well-disciplined touch in this screwball comedy about his elopement with heiress Nancy Morgan from LA to Las Vegas, with her father Barry Cahill and dozens of others in pursuit.
Howard never tries to hog the screen and lets his costars have plenty of funny moments. Morgan is pretty and charming as his spunky partner, and it's a nice touch that Howard lets her drive the getaway car, a gleaming black-and-tan Rolls-Royce.
Also along for the chase are Marion Ross as the angry mother of Morgan's oafish fiance, played amusingly straight by Paul Linke, and d.j. Don Steele, who broadcasts a cynical running commentary from a helicopter.
