When we last left Camp Crystal Lake one nubile counselor (Adrienne King) managed to survive the murderous spree of surprise villain Betsy Palmer who, it might be remembered, was killing all of the counselors as a symbolic revenge for her son drowning in camp years earlier.
Now five years have gone by and a new group of counselors (that seems to be the operating vocation here) have returned next door to the legendary camp. They know about the past violence and are even told of the legend of Palmer's son Jason, who supposedly lives on in the woods.
Producer-director Steve Miner doesn't move in and out of scenes with the flair of original producer-director Sean Cunningham nor is he able to create the same nauseatingly realistic murder situations (perhaps he's better off for the latter).
