Script [from a novel by Ray Gaulden] pits them against one another in the unraveling of whodunit murders, but dramatic buildup suffers thru a premature disclosure of killer's identity and subsequent lessening of what should have been more potent impact.
Action follows the aftermath of a late night poker game when a stranger is caught cheating and is lynched by five angry players.
Martin injects certain amount of humor into his role and generally acquits himself strongly. Mitchum's character at times seems contrived but he handles himself well nevertheless. Inger Stevens, playing a gold-rush Delilah who mistresses a stable of lady 'barbers,' lends distaff interest, and Katherine Justice is a nice addition as a ranch girl in love with Martin.
