Enemy MMine is a friendship story [by Barry Longyear] between two disparate personalities carried to extreme lengths. It may be a long way to go to a distant sun system to get to a familiar place, but the $33 million project is largely successful in establishing a satisfying bond.

Story is set up by a kind of videogame battle between the Earth forces and the war- ring Dracs from the distant planet of Dracon. Space pilot Willis Davidge (Dennis Quaid) goes down with a Drac ship and is the only survivor on a desolate planet. His initial response to the half-human, half-reptilian is inbred hatred, distrust and combativeness, all recognizable human triggers.

Hostility soon gives way to a common goal - survival. Davidge and the Drac (Louis Gossett Jr) peel away their outer layers and reveal two similar beings. It's an anthropomorphic view of life but touching nonetheless.

(Color) Widescreen. Available on VHS, DVD. Extract of a review from 1985. Running time: 108 MIN.
