In its peppy opening, Cannon time-telescopes the childhood, adolescence (played by the late Rebecca Schaeffer) and young womanhood of Stephanie Lewis, a lovely if malleable only child of querulous middle-class Jewish parents.
Predictably enough, selfish struggling writer Michael (Steve Meadows), turns out to be not much different than the boorish cad who deflowered Stephanie on her prom night long ago.
A caring platonic male friend, lost in the narrative shuffle, tries to warn her off Michael to no avail. Drifting through life with no real career or focus, Stephanie (Cannon) deals with her deep unhappiness with junk food, mood pills and marijuana.
Cannon, looking remarkably good, has a field day dominating the film. But the auteur/star gets too carried away with a sense of mission here.
