Cuba is a hollow, pointless non-drama. Cynical and evasive about politics, pic displays uniformly unsympathetic characters enacting a vague plot amidst a splendid re-creation of Havana at the very end of the Batista regime.

Basic Two Weeks in Another Town situation has had all conventional melodrama calculatedly drained from it. Revolution is closing in on the upper-crust-types who serve as story focus, and Brooke Adams is torn between two men, but treatment deliberately goes against the grain of sentiments normally encountered in such potent dramatic set-ups.

Given the worthless, motley crew seen to populate Havana - including gross American profiteer Jack Weston and cynical gentleman Denholm Elliott - political outlook would seem to be that things couldn't get much worse, and maybe Castro will be a little bit better.
