Within minutes of film's start, a small band of voracious Krites (a.k.a. Critters) easily escape from a 'maximum security asteroid' and are whizzing toward Kansas with two crack bounty hunters in pursuit.
Establish the sleepy life of farmer (yes) Brown and his wife Helen, as credibly performed by Billy Green Bush and Dee Wallace as can be expected with such material, rambunctious son Brad and sexually budding daughter April. There's also M. Emmet Walsh as the familiar smalltown sheriff.
Co-writers Domonic Muir [who penned the original story] and Stephen Herek, latter doubling as film's director, manage to deflate what little suspense is created by subtitling the Critters' chatter. The final result is neither scary nor humorous.
