Coffy is the story of a black tart, vengeance-minded, who sets out to kill everyone she holds responsible for her 11-year-old sister losing her mind by the dope habit. She blasts her victims, most of them lured into sex, with a shotgun that never misses.

Jack Hill, who wrote and directs with an action-atuned hand, inserts plenty of realism in footage in which Pam Grier in title role ably acquits herself. She takes on her prey, including pushers, crooked cops and politicians, pimps, gangsters et al, with a ferocity which builds into often-suspenseful sequence.

Grier, a statuesque actress with a body she doesn't hesitate to show, is strongly cast. Booker Bradshaw as a city politician and William Elliott as an honest cop score well.
