James Stewart and Henry Fonda are longtime cowpoke buddies, and when the former finds he has inherited from his brother a business in Cheyenne, the latter follows. Turns out the business is the town's pleasure dome, inhabited by Sue Ane Langdon, Elaine Devry, Jackie Russell, Jackie Joseph and Sharon De Bord, under Shirley Jones' supervision. Each girl has her own doorbell signal, so Stewart never can talk to them for long without callers interrupting.

When Stewart learns the truth and plans to shutter the place, the whole male population turns against him, but Fonda works his way through the house, room by room.

The story is a flimsy, one-joke affair, and Gene Kelly's direction is too sluggish to make it perk at the fast pace required to sustain momentum.
