In Caddyshack's unabashed bid for the mammoth audience which responded to the anti-establishment outrageousness of National Lampoon's Animal House, this vaguely likable, too-tame comedy falls short of the mark.

This time, the thinly plotted shenanigans unfold against the manicured lawns and posh backdrop of a restricted country club, generally pitting the free-living youthful caddies against the uptight gentry who employ them.

Stock characters include Chevy Chase as resident golf-pro; club prexy and jurist Ted Knight; and Rodney Dangerfield as the perfectly cast and very funny personification of anti-social, nouveau riche grossness.

Beyond Chase, prime lure is Bill Murray as a foul-habited, semi-moronic groundskeeper, constantly aroused by the older femme golfers.
