Margi Clarke packs a mean punch in Blonde Fist as a scrappy Liverpudlian and devoted mother who eventually wins in the boxing ring and at home. In a gritty Thelma & Louise meets Rocky, Clarke is a knockout and pic is punchy, but the complex story drags.

After fleeing jail and ending up in New York, Clarke befriends a fun-loving, aging ex-stripper (superbly played by Carroll Baker) who becomes her ally and 'manager' in the ring.

Fight scenes are dynamically choreographed, beautifully shot and provide pic's most engaging footage. But there are too many characters and scenarios for a tight film.
