A Bigger Splash is a revealing last ripple of the so-called life style of 'Swinging London' invented mainly by journalists.

Jack Hazan uses painter David Hockney, his art dealer in the US and his fashion creator friend and the latter's wife. It has Hockney breaking with a boyfriend and not being able to work as his friends worry and his American dealer exhorts him. He finally does begin one on a swimming pool, which eventually has a man floating in it and the one who left him standing outside and staring.

Real people play themselves around a partly-fictionalized tale. Hockney was noted for his color and specialization in California subjects. The gay life around him is indicated with style and taste.
