Story is an intimate affair of a Jap family of the upper class; and the impress of the conquests in Asia and war against the United States on both father and son. Father is influential newspaper publisher (J. Carrol Naish), while son is Cornell-educated Tom Neal. When latter arrives from America after completing college education and figures to embark on career as an engineer with Don Douglas, there are family objections for a time. But when Neal further falls in love with lower-caste Jap girl (Margo) marriage is impossible.
