A huggable prehistoric hatchling is discovered by a young American couple in an African rain forest. Story has an engaging performance from William Katt, who plays the sportswriter husband of paleontologist Sean Young. Latter, whose maternal and scientific instincts propel events, is rather bland.
Evil foil is Patrick McGoohan as a rival, ruthless paleontologist who enlists the aid of a rapacious revolutionary army to capture Baby's towering brontosaurus mama, after overzealous soldiers gun down the 70-or-so-foot tall papa.
Katt and Young risk their lives to save the baby, who stretches 10 feet, has a kind of E.T. winsomeness, and once even hops like a shaggy family pooch in between the covers of Katt and Young.
Dinosaur movements derive from both cable and from operators who were inside the gargantuan structures.
