New firms specialize in homemade food for baby

Babylove meets the tapas craze at Culver City restaurant Homemade Baby. Parents choose free samples from a menu that includes pureed peas and mashed roast squash with apples, then choose their favorites to take home.

New York tots don't enjoy a tasting room, but they can receive individual customized cooking performed in their own kitchens from Evie's Organic Edibles. And back in Los Angeles, Bohemian Baby sponsors tasting parties at parenting hotspots.

Do babies care where their pureed carrots come from? Parents seem to think so, with jarred organic baby food seeing nearly at 20% increase in grocery sales between 2004 and 2005.

And if organic is good, fresh is better. Fans say refrigerated or fresh-frozen baby food offers its young customers more vitamins and minerals and tastes better than their jarred competitors.

Founded last year by Edy Kiene, is one of a burgeoning number of new firms nationwide specializing in homemade food for baby.

"Our parents routinely report they end up eating it too," says former television executive and Homemade co-founder TheresaEdy Kiene.
