Where the chefs eat cheap

Because man cannot live on filet mignon alone, Variety Weekend asked three of L.A.'s most prominent chefs for their favorite spots to grab a bite for under $25.

JOACHIM SPLICHAL, PATINA

"The Pantry, downtown. I like to go for breakfast on my way back from the vegetable and fish markets. I order eggs, meat and potatoes -- that's what they do best."

CHRISTOPHE EME, ORTOLAN

"I like taking the staff to the 3rd Stop (on Beverly Boulevard) to wind down after a busy night. (It's) the perfect place to relax, have a beer and a slice of pizza, and put the work night behind us."

SUZANNE GOIN, LUCQUES and A.O.C.

"Greenblatt's on Sunset. I love love love sandwich #3 (I think; I don't even read the menu anymore!) with pastrami, coleslaw, Swiss on the most delicious soft rye bread. They also have great macaroni salad, which I always thought I hated until I had it there."
