'Alexander' lands Leto

CAA-repped thesp last starred in 'Room,' 'Requiem'

Jared Leto has been set to co-star in "Alexander," the Oliver Stone-directed epic for Intermedia and Warner Bros.

Leto will play Hephaistion, Alexander's top general and his lifelong companion.

It is the first major film role in a while for Leto, who has been recording an album and touring with rock band 30 Seconds to Mars, for which he sings lead vocals. The CAA-repped Leto last starred in "Panic Room" and "Requiem for a Dream."

Leto's role touches on one of the more sensitive plot points of both Intermedia's Alexander pic and the rival saga being mounted by Baz Luhrmann and Dino De Laurentiis for Universal and DreamWorks: the conqueror's wide-ranging sexual interests.

Colin Farrell stars as Alexander, with Angelina Jolie as his mother and Anthony Hopkins as the general and future pharaoh Ptolemy.

Scripted by Stone, the pic is produced by Thomas Schuehly, Moritz Borman, Stone, Jon Kilik and Iain Smith.
