Silverdocs competition sets 26 films

DC documentary festival to take place in June

AFI's Silverdocs Documentary Festival has lined up 26 competition films for the event, set for June 15-22 at the AFI Silver Theater and Cultural Center in Washington, D.C.

Eleven pics have been tapped in the Sterling U.S. feature competition, including "Good Fortune," directed by Landon Van Soest; "Junior," by Jenna Rosher; "Mrs. Goundo's Daughter," by Barbara Attie and Janet Goldwater; and "My Neighbor, My Killer," Anne Aghion. "October Country," Michael Palmieri and Donal Mosher; "Off and Running," Nicole Opper; "The Philosopher Kings," Patrick Shen; "Racing Dreams," Marshall Curry; "She Is the Matador," Gemma Cubero and Celeste Carrasco; "Sweethearts of the Prison Rodeo," Bradley Beesley; and "The Windmill Movie," Alexander Olch.

Another 10 titles have been tapped for the world feature competition.

"Another Planet," directed by Ferenc Moldoványi; "Blood Trail," Richard Parry; "Cooking History," Peter Kerekes; "Dancing With the Devil," Jon Blair; "Hunting Down Memory," Thomas Lien; "Mugabe and the White African," Lucy Bailey; "Partly Private," Danae Elon; "Rene," Helena Trestikova; "Sea Point Days," Francois Verster; and "The Sounds of Insects: Record of a Mummy," Peter Liechti.In the music documentary category, entries include "Intangible Asset Number 82," directed by Emma Franz; "Rise Up," Luciano Blotta; "Soul Power," Jeffrey Levy-Hinte; "Still Bill," Alex Vlack and Damani Baker; and "Trimpin: The Sound of Invention," Peter Esmonde.

The festival, now in its seventh year, includes 122 films plus special screenings, music performances and panel discussions.
