Ambrose Ho to chair HKBA
Lawyer replaces Daniel Fung
HONG KONG — Ambrose Ho was Friday appointed chairman of the Hong Kong Broadcasting Authority, replacing outgoing topper Daniel Fung.Ho, a local lawyer who previously served on the territory's Telecommunications Appeal Board, was appointed by chief executive Donald Tsang for a two-year term starting Monday.
The move comes after a tumultuous year for the Broadcasting Authority. In January, the authority's mandate to issue TV and radio licenses was deemed unconstitutional by a district courts.
The ruling stemmed from a civil suit the authority brought against a pirate radio station operated by pro-democracy activists. The ruling was later overturned and the case adjourned to a later date, pending an appeal by the prosecution.
