Charlize Theron plans 'Tourist' trip

Actress in talks to join Cruise in Nalluri's thriller

Charlize Theron is negotiating to star with Tom Cruise in “The Tourist,” the Bharat Nalluri-directed remake of the 2005 French thriller “Anthony Zimmer.”

In the Julian Fellowes-scripted drama, Theron will play a female Interpol agent who uses an American tourist in an attempt to flush out an elusive criminal with whom she once had an affair.

Production is expected to begin by March. Script is currently getting a polish by Christopher McQuarrie, who co-wrote the upcoming Cruise starrer “Valkyrie” for United Artists.

Spyglass principals Gary Barber, Roger Birnbaum and Jonathan Glickman will produce with Canal Plus. Nalluri most recently directed the HBO film “Tsunami” and “Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day.”

Theron was most recently seen alongside Will Smith in “Hancock,” and she will be seen shortly starring in the Guillermo Arriaga-directed “The Burning Plain” and alongside Viggo Mortensen in John Hillcoat’s “The Road.”

Theron is repped by One Talent Management.
