'Cape' receives Taiwan Oscar nod

Film selected as region's foreign language pic

HONG KONG – "Cape No. 7," a debut feature by helmer Wei Te-sheng, has secured Taiwan's nomination as the territory's contender for the foreign-language Oscar.

Pic, about the rise of a small town rock band and the discovery of a cache of undelivered love letters from 60 years ago, is a celebration of all things Taiwanese delving into themes of generational divides, cultural disparity and small town ennui. In June it was selected as the opening film of the 10th Taipei Film Festival, where it won the jury prize and an audience award.

Producer was informed of the selection by the territory's Motion Picture Association.

Int'l sales of the pic, handled by Good Films Workshop, are skedded to get underway at next month's Asian Film Market in Pusan.
