Impact Film Festival announces slate
Screenings taking place at summer conventions
Political docs and topical dramas lead the slate for the inaugural Impact Film Festival, which will screen films for lawmakers, candidates and delegates at the upcoming national political conventions.Presented by Starz, the fest will screen pics at the Democratic National Convention in Denver (Aug. 25-28) and at the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis and St. Paul (Sept. 1-4). Panel discussions will feature filmmakers as well as policy makers and experts.
Selections include "Battle in Seattle," Stuart Townsend's narrative account of the violent fallout from the 1999 World Trade Organization meetings; Tia Lessin and Carl Deal's Hurricane Katrina docu "Trouble the Water"; "Boogie Man: The Lee Atwater Story," Stefan Forbes' profile of the late Republican strategist; and "I.O.U.S.A.," a primer on America's mounting economic crisis from "Wordplay" helmer Patrick Creadon.
