Biz celebrates 'Peace' prizes
Film & Music Awards held in London
LONDON -- Humanist concerns topped the bill as London played host to its first Time for Peace Film & Music Awards May 12 at the Landmark Hotel.Time for Peace, founded in 1994, aims to celebrate pics that have a positive influence on the understanding of the world.
Among those honored at the glitzy bash were Brit helmers Michael Winterbottom for "A Mighty Heart" (English-lingo film prize) and John Carney for "Once" (European film award). Carney commented on the importance of promoting tolerance in Ireland's current political climate, adding that his pic was "made in the spirit of this award." Russian director Alexander Sokurov was also feted for "Alexandra."
The presence of 14 ambassadors to the UN and the evening's lofty objective lent a serious tone but guests did have some fun. A Krug champagne reception was followed by a lavish five-course meal.
