Tribeca fest finale

'Speed Racer' wraps up N.Y. competition

The Tribeca Film Fest wrapped its seventh annual edition over the weekend with the premieres of "Speed Racer" and "Lou Reed's Berlin."

At the "Racer" preem, John Goodman said his decision to take a role in the CGI pic was an easy one. "They said Wachowski Brothers and I said, 'I am in.' "

Fellow cast member Christina Ricci echoed the sentiment. "I wanted to work with the brothers for a long time," she said. "I was really excited when I was invited to come and audition."

Twenty-four hours later, uptown, at the DGA theater, "Lou Reed's Berlin" helmer Julian Schnabel explained what excited him about directing Lou Reed's live 2006 concert performance of his 1973 album "Berlin."

"I felt like it was a responsibility I had to do this film," Schnabel said. "I heard the album when it came out and it had a huge impact on my life."

Reed admitted that he was initially hesitant about doing the concert, which was filmed over five nights at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn.

"I didn't want to do it, but Julian knew the record better than me. He said, 'Why wouldn't you want to do it?' So I said, 'Sure. Why not?' "
