Gameshow ratings on the climb
CBS' bet on Drew Carey as the heir to Bob Barker is paying off.During Carey's first week at the microphone, "The Price Is Right" averaged 5.4 million viewers, level with the same week last year, but the ratings indicate younger viewers are sampling the ayem gameshow.
Gamer is up 10% in 18-49 vs. with the same week last year, and during Carey's first week, it was the No. 1 daytime show in the key adult male demos, according to Nielsen.
Carey took over the venerable show, owned by FremantleMedia North America, on Oct. 15. Producers have left its retro look and feel unchanged except for some fresh paint on the set.
Barker retired in June after 35 years at the helm.
