William H. Macy joins Plum comedy
'Bart' also stars Cheryl Hines, Steven Kaplan
Gotham shingle Plum Pictures will produce high school comedy "Bart Got a Room" and has signed William H. Macy to topline the project.Cheryl Hines will also star in the movie, which centers on a teen trying to find a prom date amid the tumult of his parents' failing marriage. Movie is set among the palm trees and retirees of Hollywood, Fla.
Brian Hecker will direct from his own script; Steven Kaplan and Alia Shawkat co-star as the title character and his friend, respectively. Plum will produce in association with Hart-Lunsford, Shrink Media, Basra Entertainment and Benedek Films. Plum's Celine Rattray, Galt Niederhoffer and Daniela Taplin will produce.
Plum has been active this year, setting up an English-language remake of Michael Haeneke's "Cache" at Universal and signing on for a new adaptation of "The Bell Jar" to star Julia Stiles.
Company is also behind John Cusack Iraq pic "Grace Is Gone," which the Weinstein Co. will release in December.
