Padalecki paints 'Cottage'

Actor to star in Lionsgate's Kinkade biopic

Lionsgate and the Firm have tapped Jared Padalecki ("Supernatural") to star as painter Thomas Kinkade in biopic "The Christmas Cottage."

Peter O'Toole also will star in "Cottage," directed by Michael Campus, penned by Ken LaZebnick and based on the events that led to Kinkade becoming an artist. Filming begins in Vancouver this month with the goal of a holiday release.

Padalecki's wrapping his lead role on the second season of the CW's "Supernatural." He's also appeared in "House of Wax" and "Flight of the Phoenix."

"Cottage" will be financed by Lionsgate and produced by Kinkade's Birch Grove Films and Stirling Media labels. Producers will be the Firm's Julie Yorn along with Thomas and Nanette Kinkade and Michael and Arla Dietz Campus. The Firm's Marc R. Gordon will be a co-exec producer.
